Richard Mullaney is our very charismatic Irishman, who has been working with Learning Without Borders since 2008, and is now coming back after a few years’ break. After finishing college, studying Youth & Community Work, he started working full-time with Learning Without Borders providing a range of different talks and workshops whilst also performing in the Wild About Oscar play. Each summer he has worked for a variety of summer schools in both Scotland and England as part of the Activities team management. This has included running Ceilí dances, Discos, as well as excursions to various cities. In Ireland, he also worked as a restaurant manager in one of Dublin?s busiest bars, House Dublin. He has performed in Poland, Italy and Estonia.

The word Ceilí or Ceilidh (Scots Gaelic) means ?companions? and this famous form of cultural dance brings together hundreds of people in easy-to-learn steps. Richie will involve ALL students in a few of the most popular numbers, giving students a taste of Ceilí and only taking a small break to learn a little of Riverdance, one of the fastest forms of dance in the world! Richie has facilitated Ceilí workshops for 8 years now and in countries all over Europe with students from many different cultures and backgrounds. This is a particularly great experience for students of a younger age, or student?s first interactions with a native English speaker.

You might think ?Halloween? is just a daft American tradition, however it has a much richer history than that. Halloween began in Ireland over 2,000 years ago in ancient Celtic Ireland. Britain like many countries in Europe has a rich history of multiculturalism partly growing from the ashes of its once fading empire which has now ceased to be. But what has grown from those ashes is a country rich in variety for anybody visiting or living there, from the allure of the Asian restaurants to the globally famous multicultural festivals and many more examples to be seen. With Richie Mullaney, we will see how it has affected our day-to-day life with its connection to language and how we use it. We will learn about political correctness; what is it?
